Runs and Podcasts!

I stopped listening to music during the long runs - I used to listen to music mainly to keep the boredom of a long run away and distract my thoughts on 'stopping'. But, i figured out that listening to music held me back from improving on my run performance. Without the Ipod , these days, am able to focus on keeping myself relaxed , maintain posture and importantly, work on my breathing and keep it steady.

Last sunday was an exception - i listened to the interview of Intuit's Founder and CEO Mr.Cook ( www.iinnovate.blogspot.com ) . One of the best interviews on starting up, i ever listened to. Very honest and very real life !

I was into the podcast so much, that i ended up running for close to 2 hours, despite running between 1 and 3 pm on sunday ( and the cool weather helped :) )

That's cool. I'll check that podcast out. I usually listen to peppy songs so that it syncs with my workout. If a podcast can make me forget that I'm working out, then I'm all for it :) Thanks for the reco!

@ Alpine - Yeah, peppy ones are good get us in rhythm.

I figured out that if am going to run for 1 hour, i could do more than just running. So, i started to look up for audio books / podcast. I found the podcasts really good - i also listened to lectures at Stanford GSB on entrepreneurship.

I try maintain a balance - i want to improve running and using the ipod takes away the focus on the runs. But i also don't want to do 2-3 hours runs and not put my mind through some interesting ideas / listening.

And, i also want to listen to Music - i appreciate music better when i run. I listen to all kinds from AR Rahman , Pink Floyd .. to DJ Tiesto, Joe Satriani. I understand the Vairamuthu's lyrics more when i run and i think he is a genius. DJ Tiesto / Joe Satriani takes the fatigue away off the mind. Pink Floyd 'high hopes' always gives me a 'high' !

Have you read "The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner", a short story by Alan Sillitoe?

George : Yes, runs turn out to be a 'learning ' time too :)

Archu : Oh - pass them on to me too !

Rajesh : The 1:30 to 3:30 pm run was on a cloudy day - but it was quite hot. Did R A Puram - Besant Nagar - ( 3 Besant Nagar loops ) and back to R A Puram.
